A brief history of the younger Lovell: I grew up in Eastern Tennessee, went to
college at Agnes Scott College
where I first became interested in Astronomy.
I did all my graduate work at the University
of Massachusetts in the Five
College Astronomy Department. There I developed my interests in Venus,
asteroids, and learned to love comets.
After completing my thesis: "Millimeter-wave molecular mapping of comets
Hale-Bopp and Hyakutake", I went to work at Amherst
College as the inaugural "Five College Astronomy Science Education
Fellow." In 2000, I returned to Agnes Scott College to join the faculty
in Physics & Astronomy. I am an observational astronomer, and
have recently made observations with the Heinrich-Hertz Submillimeter
Telescope (SMT) on Mt. Graham, the NRAO Green Bank Telescope (GBT) in West
Virginia, and the Arecibo 300m in Puerto Rico.
Aside from my academic & campus-life pursuits, it is my chief goal in life to be interesting. To me, one cannot have too many experiences. I enjoy the company of my family and I love to travel.... If you aren't bored yet, see my list of things done and yet to do.
