Here is a random and incomplete list of things I can say I've done or can do:
visited 44 US states and Puerto Rico
visited 18 other countries in the Americas and Europe
became an open-water certified SCUBA diver
watched a full moon rise over the Grand Canyon
piloted an airplane over an active volcano in Hawaii, over Kitt Peak, Mt. Hopkins, and the Golden Gate Bridge
seen Old Faithful erupt in Yellowstone National Park (back when it was more faithful?)
played the flute in the Tennessee All-State band
sung in Notre Dame de Paris
ridden the "chunnel" train underneath the English Channel
picked wild coffee in Colombia
sea kayaked off the coast of Brazil and in St. John USVI
entered East Berlin through Checkpoint Charlie (when the Berlin Wall still was)
viewed a Total Solar Eclipse on Marienplatz in Munich in the rain, alongside 12,000 other people
had an asteroid named after me
stood on the 2nd highest peak in the Bavarian Alps, and the 4th highest peak in Mexico
swam with and petted manatees in Florida (and heard mother-baby conversations)
ridden in an airplane which had no engine, ridden in a helicopter over downtown Atlanta
flown airplanes with zero, one and two engines
flown (as a passenger) by seaplane between Caribbean islands
been in a submarine 80 feet below the surface
gotten married, and stayed that way...
given birth twice
seen what I'm pretty sure was a cougar in the wild
visited archeological sites in Mexico and touched 2000+ year old pottery shards
helped take apart an entire automotive engine, and put it back together so that it worked
made attempts at speaking French & Spanish, and more pathetic attempts at German & Italian
watched a Bald Eagle soar over my house
watched spacecraft launches on Delta II and Atlas rockets
measured a tree’s circumference of 22 feet
been parasailing in tandem with my daughter, looking down at the birds flying beneath us
walked around on top of the world’s largest radio telescope (Arecibo) and the largest fully-steerable radio telescope (GBT)
And the things I haven't done yet but still hope to do:
see the other 6 states, especially Alaska
see polar bears in the wild
go North of the Arctic circle and South of the Antarctic circle
visit at least one place on the other 4 continents
go to Africa and see wild giraffes, elephants, zebras....
touch a redwood tree
watch the space shuttle take off
stand on a glacier
see the green flash
visit Iceland where the mid-Atlantic ridge comes above water
see the Great Wall of China
watch a volcano erupt
feel an earthquake
And, of course, see the Earth from orbit, and walk on the
moon...how about jump off an asteroid?
