Popular Science Writing

Teaching at a small liberal arts college for the past 14 years has given me lots of practice talking about astronomy, and thinking about how to make astronomy interesting to students who are majoring in very different fields. In general, astronomy is a pretty easy topic to get people interested in, and I try to encourage students to think about the ways in which astronomy might relate to their chosen discipline.

I enjoy conveying astronomical discoveries to as wide an audience as possible. This interest has led me to do some popular science writing.

• Recent Advances and Issues in Astronomy
• Van Nostrand's Concise Encyclopedia of Science

I also wrote a guide called Physics Made Simple (Doubleday, 2004), and have a number of other writing projects underway.
